Big ROCKS - Nicasio, Ca

(9" x 12" gouache on watercolor board)

If you ever drive down Lucas Valley, it's a wonderful windy drive with trees that remind me of the chase scene from Return of the Jedi. After making a right onto Nicasio Valley, you'll come up to the small town of Nicasio.

Landmarks like Druid's Hall, St. Mary's Church and the General store are visitor favorites....but I was more fascinated with the lush green grass and scattered big rocks along the hills behind the church.

Gerald. Speaking of missing out, it looks like I missed out on a great painting session! I really like blending of reds in the grass on the left corner in this painting. Hope all is well with you.

well done on the rocks!
there's a great sense of texture.
I feel like I don't even need to see the original.

i've been drawing landscapes too.
maybe one day i'll get to use gouache like you when i'm not scared :P

I'm jealous you can paint these rocks so accurately! I love that hillside. Thanks for setting up the paintout for the group.

oh man, I really gotta frequent blogger more often, look at all the amazing paintings I've missed out on! Seriously they get better and better each time I visit! Amazing work and beautiful rich colors. I especially like that painting of the Geese you did a few posts back...the textured brush strokes in all the right places...I love it! Looking forward to seeing more :D
