Sometime spelled "
Fu Dog". Either way, they are Chinese Imperial Guardian Lions. I've seen similar statues at plant nursery's and clay pottery stores while driving down
Hwy 1 and
Hwy 121. But I definitely remember seeing Foo Dogs at the
San Francisco Chinatown Gate (Sketchcrawl #2 & 17). But this particular one was found in the living room of my friends Anna and Marie. I thought they were kidding when they told me it was called a "Dog Fu". It's believed that they possess mythical protective powers and usually are displayed in two's.
Faber-Castell brush pen. They're waterproof!!!

The guardian lions have such a rich history behind them.
Wow water proof? Great piece! The brush pen definitely lays down the fluidity of your brush strokes.
Thought I'd visit your site...always great stuff! btw, we didn't say "Dog Fu" you Fu! lol or at least I didn't! haha

Nice rendering of the Dog Fu
like your sketch. masks are always interesting to draw, especially chinese, japanese and african ones. nice work.
Wow! This is so cool. I love how 3-dimensional yet funky it looks. Those brush pens in your hand are great. Will you be going to the SF crawl? I'm probably going too (also have a plein air paintout that day, but I missed the last sketchcrawl and don't want to miss this one.) It would be fun to meet you!
